Non-Executive Director - Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is seeking an experienced Non-executive Director to join their board

Location: Central London
Time Commitment: approximately 2.5 days per month (and as required)
Remuneration: £13,000 pa

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) is the UK’s pre-eminent paediatric centre and one of the top children’s hospitals in the world. We are renowned for delivering outstanding specialist and sub-specialist clinical services to children and young people from across the UK and overseas.

Working in partnership with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH), we support the largest centre in Europe devoted to research and postgraduate teaching in children’s health. Our mission is to provide world-class care by placing the child and their family at the heart of everything we do.

We require an exceptionally talented individual to lead our organisation in shaping and achieving our ambitious strategy. Working in partnership with the Chair and rest of the Board, the Non-Executive Director will provide inspirational and dynamic leadership to our Trust. We wish to hear from candidates with Board level experience as an Executive and ideally as a Non-Executive or Trustee, with specific experience in one of the following areas:

Strong business and financial acumen, with considerable experience at Board level for a large/complex/changing healthcare organisation (NHS or commercial).
Experience of designing, negotiating and delivering innovative technologies (for example digital) within a commercial or public environment (and managing workforce/ transformation/ cultural implications).

The candidate will require a strong commitment to the principles of the NHS and champion effective, safe services and an excellent patient and family experience. They will be passionate about improving child health. They will offer leadership qualities which will enable us to continually improve our clinical, operational and financial performance. They will be able to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and delivery of our sustainability plans.

Candidates will also demonstrate:

  • Significant intellect, political nous and credibility to understand the NHS landscape in which the Trust operates;
  • A high degree of integrity and diplomacy to collaborate and sustain relationships with internal stakeholders (Board members, Governors and staff members).
  • An in-depth understanding of governance with the ability to hold senior executives to account and challenge accordingly;
  • Outstanding communication skills.
