Salary: £12,000 per annum

Closes: 21 Feb 2021
Job Function: Chair
Industry: Science / Environment

The Norwich Research Park (NRP) is a community of research organisations with world leading science credentials and a growing cluster of science and technology-based businesses. It is located on a 230-hectare site with 52 hectares of land earmarked for future commercial development. The NRP’s mission, vision and structures were formalised in 2012 under a Partnership Agreement and updated in 2019 with a new innovative vision and strategy. The aim is to grow a world-class science and innovation park, containing a thriving ecosystem of private sector bio-science research-based enterprises, supporting spin-out and start-up companies and attracting inward investment from larger corporates.

Anglia Innovation Partnership LLP (AIP LLP) was set up under the Partnership Agreement to manage the NRP. Its member partners comprise the resident organisations:

  • University of East Anglia (UEA)
  • Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH)
  • John Innes Centre (JIC)
  • Quadram Institute (QI)
  • Earlham Institute (EI)
  • The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL)

Together with the non-resident landowner organisations:

  • United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI)
  • The John Innes Foundation (JIF)

AIP LLP is now seeking to appoint an Independent Board Chair to provide outstanding leadership to ensure that the objectives of AIP LLP are achieved to generate maximum impact in fulfilling its vision for the NRP.

The Chair will have experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation with specific expertise in setting a positive and inclusive cultural tone to a board. It would be very beneficial if the candidate had high level experience in an area relevant to the scientific activities of the NRP. They must be well networked with a range of contacts nationally and possibly within the region. Importantly, the Chair will have strong leadership skills and exhibit good inter-personal and relationship-building abilities.

The remuneration for the Chair role will be £12,000 per annum. Board meetings take place in Norwich and comprise four meetings per year for 3-4 hours each, plus additional meetings including a half day strategic workshop at least once a year. The total time commitment is estimated at 12-18 days p.a. (or 1-2 days per month).
