As the UK’s largest mixed youth movement, we help over 462,000 young people from all backgrounds play their part, speak up and gain skills for life. We help our members look to the future with a sense of hope and optimism. Scouts is a place to be yourself and find yourself.

Our work not only supports young people, but contributes to a stronger, fairer and more cohesive society. Our social action campaign, A Million Hands, has helped over 200,000 young people to make a positive contribution in their local communities, helping us become one of the best known and most trusted charities in the UK. We’re also proud to have opened over a thousand new units in our most deprived areas, in the last five years, reaching out to new and different people.

COVID-19 has undoubtedly had a significant impact on us locally and nationally, but our Scouts and volunteer have shown remarkable courage, kindness and resilience and we’re confident of and ambitious about our future.

To make sure we’re in the best possible position as we build towards our next phase, we’re now looking for a new Chair, as the tenure of our current Chair, Ann Limb, comes to a close in 2021.

For this pivotal position, we’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to openly ask the big questions, take a close look at how we are organised and help position the charity to be even more inclusive, responsive and dynamic so that even more young people can gain skills they need to succeed.

Level-headed, calm under pressure and with senior-level experience, you’ll bring a breadth of vision and a strong grasp of complex governance issues. You’ll need to demonstrate a track record of fostering organisational transition and change management. You’ll also have a keen understanding of how governance needs to adapt to better respond to the challenges faced by a modern, multi-faceted organisation. Used to dealing with great complexity, your incisive judgement will assist the Board and Executive to take key decisions with confidence, insight and clarity.

You will be joining an excellent, committed, values-driven Board full of integrity, good humour and intellectual versatility. To lead it and inspire an exciting and inclusive debate, you must possess empathy, emotional intelligence and first rate influencing skills.
