Lay Council Members - General Teaching Council for Scotland

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) is the independent professional regulatory body that maintains and enhances teaching standards and promotes and regulates the teaching profession in Scotland.

We are looking to appoint two Lay people to serve as Council Members.

As a Council member, you will play an important role in:

  • influencing and making key decisions that will help shape the future of teaching, the teaching profession and other education professionals in Scotland;
  • ensuring the maintenance of high standards in teaching and learning and the protection of children and young people.

The work will be principally based in Edinburgh.

you will have strategic and analytical skills, be an excellent communicator, have sound judgement and decision making skills, have a strong sense of fairness, integrity and professionalism and be able to work successfully as part of a team.

Appointment: 1 interim position for a 2 year term to 1 April 2020 and 1 position for a 4 year term to 1 April 2022.

Commitment: up to 15 days per annum.

Compensation: £75 for each half day of attendance (up to 3.5 hours). Reasonable expenses will be refunded.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 12th January 2018.

Interviews will be held in Edinburgh between 29 and 31 January 2018.
