Chairperson appointment for Stansted Airport Consultative Committee

Part of the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), Stansted Airport welcomes over 24 million passengers a year and operates flights to over 190 destinations. With a new £130m arrivals building in planning stages, this is an exciting time for Stansted.

The operator of each major airport is obliged by statute through the Civil Aviation Act of 1982 to provide facilities for consultation about the management of the airport. The Stansted Airport Consultative Committee (STACC) consists of representation from three key Groups - users of the airport, local authorities and organisations speaking for local interests. Its role is to be a 'constructive critical friend', holding the airport operator to account in respect of the overall management and administration of the airport through consultation and cooperation.

Broadly, the role of the Chairman is to lead this committee of 21 members, representing the interests of each of the three Groups and developing a close, effective working relationship with the CEO, the wider Executive Board and Senior Leadership Team of the Airport. Requiring a commitment of the equivalent of circa 17 full days per annum for formal meetings, plus additional time for preparation and administration, this re-numerated opportunity will initially be for a three year term.

Experience and skills required:

  • Experience of effectively chairing meetings of around 25-30 in public
  • Demonstrate the ability to listen objectively, respecting varied and often differing view-points, summarise complex issues succinctly and identify a consensus way forward
  • Excellent diplomatic skills, and a credible confident communication style in relation to the local community, the public and media together with the ability to promote the work of the Committee
  • Demonstrate a credible, authentic and leadership style gaining the respect of the Committee and the Airport Management, including the CEO
