Position Type: Permanent

The Port of Tyne, the largest UK trust port, is an independent statutory body governed by its own, unique, local legislation and controlled by an independent Board of Directors. Its primary duty is to manage, maintain, develop and improve the Port for the benefit of all its stakeholders.

The Port is operated on a strictly commercial basis. Investment in excess of £130m in the last 10 years has created the infrastructure to deliver continued growth of the Port’s diverse businesses: conventional and bulk cargoes, car terminals, cruise and ferries, logistics and a portfolio of commercial property.

We are inviting applications to become the next Chair and succeed the incumbent, who steps down at the end of June 2017. The new Chair will provide the strong leadership needed to lead and develop a cohesive, dynamic and effective Board, the majority of which comprises non-executives directors with a variety of backgrounds including those drawn from the North East Region and maritime related industries. The Chair will lead the development of the Port’s strategy and is responsible for developing the Port’s relationship with a wide range of stakeholders at international, national and local levels.

The successful candidate will have gained wide and relevant business experience at a senior level in an organisation of comparable scale and profile.

This is a 3-year appointment (1 day per week) with the potential of renewal. The appointment will be made by the Secretary of State for Transport.

Application is by submission of application form, CV and covering letter. All applications will be acknowledged.
