Job Function: Chair
Could you be our Outstanding Chair?
Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW) provides a wide range of mental health, learning disability and neuro-rehabilitation services to a population of 1.4 million people in the North East of England. We are one of the largest mental health and disability organisations in the country and are one of only two mental health and disability trusts to be judged ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
At the heart of all we do is a commitment to developing services that enable and empower our service users to reach their potential and live fulfilling lives.
We are now seeking a non-executive Chair to lead our Board and our Council of Governors. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and will play a pivotal role in shaping the Trust’s strategy as the NHS continues to develop. It is also a role which requires you to help us to fulfil our vision of championing those we serve and you will need empathy, compassion and the ability to connect with service users, their families and their carers. As Chair, you will need to represent NTW effectively at all levels and across the North East’s health and care system, and this demands experience of complex stakeholder relationships as well as a high level of personal credibility. We are therefore seeking a strategic thinker with high levels of empathy, a natural ability to inspire others and with board-level leadership experience gained within large complex organisations.
As a Foundation Trust, we are led by our Board with oversight from our Council of Governors comprising elected members from our population and staff and stakeholder representatives. Candidates should have a strong connection to the NTW area.

Closing date: Monday 30 October
Stakeholder Day Tuesday 12 December and Final Panel Thursday 14 December 2017.
