An opportunity to shape healthcare services in Dorset

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of acute hospital care to the largely rural communities of West and North Dorset, Weymouth and Portland. A high performing Trust, services are provided in GP surgeries, schools, residential homes, people’s own homes, Dorset County Hospital and five community hospitals, by a dedicated workforce of 3,000 employees.

As the NHS undergoes unprecedented change, the Trust is seeking innovative ways to ensure the continued provision of safe and sustainable services. By revolutionising how we work with our partners across health and social care we aim to be at the heart of improving the wellbeing of our communities and to deliver outstanding care for people in ways which matter to them.  At this time of huge opportunity and challenge the Trust is looking to appoint a new non-executive director to join our ambitious, unitary Board. As a Non Executive Director you will:

  • Work with fellow directors to set the Trust’s strategic aims, ensuring these are delivered through holding executive directors to account and enhancing  public and stakeholder confidence;
  • Provide independent judgement and advice, working with colleagues to provide inspiring leadership within a framework, which enables risks to be assessed and managed whilst upholding the highest standards of probity;
  • Act as an ambassador for the Trust, promoting its values, engaging with stakeholders including , patients and their families and ensuring that the Board is aware of their views;
  • Chair the Audit Committee or other main Board sub committees.

If you share our vision and passion for delivering high quality services that are fit for future generations this may be the opportunity for you to make a positive impact on healthcare in Dorset.   You are likely to have experience as a Director within a complex organisation with a track record of successfully leading organisational change through partnering, collaboration and systems leadership. You may have experience of IM&T and/or finance, through which you have had oversight of significant programmes of change, innovation and transformation and ideally have experience as a member of an audit committee.  You will be a skilled ambassador offering, exceptional communication, leadership and strategic influencing skills that deliver results.
