Recruitment of independent members to the University of the Highlands and Islands Court and Further Education Regional Board (FERB).

The University of the Highlands and Islands is seeking expressions of interest from talented and enthusiastic individuals who have a strong commitment to Higher and Further Education.

The University is seeking two members who would like to join the University Court as independent Governors and two members who would like to join the FERB as co-opted independent committee members.

It is important that we have people with a variety of different skills and experience which will enable the Court and FERB to work effectively. All members need to have some general skills and personal qualities which will enable them to make a full contribution to the work of the University Court and FERB but these do not have to have been gained by working in a management post at a senior level, you may just have a natural aptitude in these areas or you may have gained them through being active in your community, in a voluntary capacity or just through your own personal experience – these are listed in the “General skills & personal qualities” section of the person specification table and we have explained what we will be looking for and how they will be tested.

The University also needs some people who bring some very specific skills/experience and these will take priority during the appointment process – these are listed in the “Priority skills & personal qualities” section and, again we have explained what we will be looking for and how they will be tested. Not all applicants need to have these priority skills, as we are looking to recruit up to five new members.

These roles are not remunerated, however, appropriate expenses will be paid.

The roles require attendance at four meetings per year and applicants should expect a minimum time commitment of approximately six days per year. Appointments will be for three years in the first instance, with the positions available from November 2017. Candidates must not be employees or students of the University.
