About the role
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is a major provider of hospital and community health services in the North West Sector of Greater Manchester, delivering services from the Royal Bolton Hospital and providing a wide range of services from community locations across Bolton. Our hospital is a major hub for women’s and children’s services within Greater Manchester and is the second-busiest ambulance-receiving site in Greater Manchester.
We have in recent years been on a remarkable journey of improvement which has been delivered with a patient-centred approach and with quality at the heart of decisions. We are now a strongly performing organisation with high staff morale. We received a ‘Good’ rating from CQC in July 2016. As part of the dynamic Greater Manchester health and care economy we have a complex array of partnerships and relationships to manage; and within Bolton itself we have strong links to other public-sector partners.
We are seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to Chair both our Board and our Council of Governors. This role does not require prior experience of the NHS, but you will need to demonstrate a passion for the ethos of the NHS and for supporting the well-being of others. We are looking for an inspirational individual with strong interpersonal skills, someone capable of forging strong and effective partnerships, of holding others to account and of overseeing transformational change, to better meet the needs of our patients. As Chair, you will represent the Trust at all levels and across the wider health and care system and this demands experience of complex stakeholder relationships as well as significant personal credibility. We are seeking a strategic thinker with high levels of empathy and a depth of experience of leadership at board level.

As a Foundation Trust, we are led by our Board with oversight from our Council of Governors comprising elected members from our population and staff, and stakeholder representatives.

Time commitment and Renumeration
Time commitment: 2-3 Days a week
Renumeration: £48,000 per annum
